MemoryBoost?

Can I use a Maxtor 300 external hard drive for the ReadyBoost?

I'm far from an expert on this, still trying to work out USB 2.0 so I can use a thumbdrive for it, but I'm not sure that the Maxtor would work as you intend.
The idea of the thumbdrive is that it's faster to use a thumbdrive as a cache than to move the arms & platters on a hard disk. If you use a secondary HD for that purpose, then you're sort of defeating the purpose.
What I'd like to know is the difference between using "ReadyBoost" on a thumbdrive and "permanently" installing the thumbdrive and having Windows use it for its page file? :dunno:

Thanks a good question. I hope someone can answer it for both of us.
